    Born in Reno, Nevada, he went to McQueen High school where he was an all state line-backer as well as a receiver. He helped his team achieve a perfect season (14 wins, 0 losses). He was described as 2-star recruit by scouts.com, and rivals.com.

    ESPN named him the 63rd best high school player, and was offered scholarships from a variety of different colleges.

    He choose BYU in 2009, but lacked playing time because of an honor code violation. In 2010 however, he played in every game, and recorded a massive 35 tackles, two forced fumbles, two quarterback hurries, two pass break-ups, and one fumble recovery.

    His sophomore season was in 2011, and again he played a part in every game, racking up 68 tackles. He was a name in the Phil Steele All-Independent First Team, Yahoo! Sports All-Independent Team and the FBS All-Independent Team.

    In 2012, he led BYU defensively. That year the team was impenetrable in defense, and in 13 games he amassed 53 tackles. His efforts earned him more accolades: the Bronco Nagurski Trophy, Lombardi Award and Bednarik Award Watch Lists, and was also National line-backer of the third week, and was honored as a Third team All-American. Despite predictions that he’d move to the NFL, he chose to complete his last year at BYU.

    In his senior year, he was again given a number of awards and accolades, including being named in the All-Independent First team and was given the title of All-Independent Defensive Player of the Year.

    In the second round of the 2014 draft, he was called up by the Detroit Lions where he signed a four year deal. It was worth $5.1 million, a guarantee of $2.63 million, and a signing bonus of $2.03 million. His first season was hampered by injury, but when he did eventually play, he made six tackles in eight games.

    He earned his first career start in 2016, where he helped his team win the first game of the season against the Indianapolis Colts- they won 39-35. By the time he had left the Lions, he had made 39 tackles in all.

    In 2016, he was traded to his current team, the New England Patriots. He made his debut against the 49ers, where he made one sack and three tackles. In December that year, he made the first interception in his career; the Patriots won 14 games and went all the way to the playoffs.

    Early in 2017, van Noy was in the team that won the Super Bowl LI when they beat the Atlanta Falcons. In the game he made one tackle and half a sack.

    In September that year he signed on for another two years at the Patriots, and through a solid preseason he was called up to be a starter. They lost their first game against the Kansas City Chiefs, but Kyle had made six tackles, and made another four in the following game against the Saints.
