    Louise Slaughter was born in the 1920s, but she worked in many different industries before entering politics.  She worked as a marketer, a researcher, and a community advocate.  

    She got into politics in the 1970s, becoming a local representative before moving on to work for the secretary of state.  She continued working with him until she decided to run for State Assmebly in the early 80s.  She won in a tough race, but she continued to win after that.

    Louise Slaughter moved on from local politics when she ran for congress.  She served for several years, and continued through several redistricting periods.

    Slaughter worked on different committees, such as House Rules, and she fought for many womens’ issues like breast cancer research.  She also fought for the violence against women act, and health care reform.

    She was known for posting online at the Daily Kos, and for her liberal views.
