In high school, Andre Emmett played basketball for Carter High School (Dallas) (Dallas, Texas). Emmett played basketball in college with Texas Tech Red Raiders team from 2000 to 2004. In the freshman year, Emmett had an average of 7.7 points and 3.6 rebounds. His average increased under the new coach, Bob Knight, who started coaching this team in 2001. Andre was also named in 1st team All-Big 12 Honors and finished the college career with winning 2004 NCAA Slam Dunk Contest.
In the 2004 National Basketball League draft, Emmett was chosen number 35 in round 2 by the Seattle SuperSonics. However, he was traded to Memphis Grizzlies with whom he signed his first professional contract. For Grizzlies, Andre played only eight games before being traded to Miami Heat. Heat also waived him after only two months, and he joined Austin Toros in the NBA D-League. Later, Emmett played for the Lietuvos Rytas throughout 2006, the Los Angeles D-Fenders over 2007, the Liège Basket during 2007-2008, and the Élan Béarnais Pau-Orthez during 2008-2009.
