The sole broadcaster of the show, HBO, released a new set of photos featuring the Battle scenes from the upcoming episode of GOT, but the images don’t give away much. In fact, the showrunners have made it super mysterious of how it is going to happen, seeing the excitement with this among the people.
Let’s recap everything you need to know before GOT episode 3. It won’t be the first time we would see the legendary battle formations on the series. From the Battle of the Blackwater in the 2nd season’s episode 9 to the Battle of Castle Black from season 4 in the chapter 9 to the Battle of the Bastards on aired on the 9th episode of season 6! The show’s creators have revealed that the showdown in the last season of Game of Thrones Season 8, the Battle of Winterfell is going to fight between the living (the good guys) and the dead (the bad guys) taking place in episode 3 on Sunday. It is going to be bigger and better than any other battle sequence that has ever been produced before in the series.
Bryan Cogman, the co-executive producer of the show, revealed about the Battle of Winterfell “What we have asked the production team and crew to do this year truly has never been done in television or a movie.” He also mentioned that “This final face-off between the army of the dead and the army of the living is completely unprecedented and relentless and a mixture of genres even within the battle.”
A show all about oppositions and disputes to contest for a throne is not very unusual to have a number of fighting sequences. But this upcoming conflict isn’t just any fight fought for revenge or a power show but this final battle is for survival.
So, in season 7, Jon Snow attested that it is not suitable for everyone fighting for the Iron Throne on which the King of the Andals sits at the Grat Hall. Instead, it was suggested by him to Daenerys Targaryen that the armies of Westeros needed to bound up and fight against the White Walkers. So, basically it is the army of living raging against the army of the dead and the Night King.
Here’s a list of the characters from the show that will probably be going to be involved in the Battle of Winterfell. Some of them can also be seen in the photos unveiled by broadcaster, HBO.
Jon Snow (Kit Harington), Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), Samwell Tarly (John Bradley), Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen), Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner), Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie), Davos Seaworth (Liam Cunningham, Sandor “The Hound” Clegane (Rory McCann) and, of course the mighty, the Night King (Vladimír Furdík).
It is also in the reports that it took 55 consecutive nights for the Game of Thrones cast and crew members to shoot the action-packed sequence. Assistant director Jonathan Quinlan shared a note on his social media saying:
“This is for the Night Dragons, for enduring 55 straight nights, for enduring the cold, the snow, the rain, the mud, the sheep s**t of Toome and the winds of Magheramorne.
When tens of millions of people around the world watch this episode a year from now, they won’t know how hard you worked. They don’t care how tired you were or how tough it was to do your job in sub-freezing temperatures.
They’ll just understand that they’re watching something that’s never been done before. And that’s because of you”
It is evident that the battle is going to have a great encounter and an expensive conflict among the oppositions. White walkers and the night king army has a heavy hand now that they can cross the Wall. One theory suggests that the Night King will descend the White Walkers army towards Winterfell. Meanwhile, he will be attacking with his own army from down to conquest the King’s Landing to beat Cersei and the Golden Company.
However, for the actual outcome, we need to wait until Sunday when the 3rd episode from the final season of the show airs.
