Kanye West’s most recent victim, Album of the Year Grammy winner Beck, should just laugh it off all the way to the bank.
As a man of many talents, Beck Hansen began his career after dropping out of high school to leave and travel the world all the while promoting his musical talents up until his 1993 debut release of Golden Feelings.
The results have since obviously paid off, as the gracious artist behind Grammy-winning Morning Phase proved. Beck is an internationally-acclaimed artist now, and his most successful U.S. album, 2005’s Guero, sold more than 868,000 copies. His latest album has only sold 300,000 copies so far in comparison, but hopefully his Grammy win will turn others on to Morning Phase.
Let us all collectively get angry at the slew of social media darlings who pondered “who Beck even was” after his Grammy win. It was an unpredictable win, absolutely. But undeserved? Let us not get ahead of ourselves.
