The all-things-wedding resource TheKnot.com estimates the average cost of an engagement ring in the United States at about $5,400, which is a quite sizable chunk of change.
When comparing that average, however, to the cost of some of the most famous celebrity engagement rings out there costing in the millions of dollars range, with the most expensive valued at a cool $8.8 million, that $5,400 quickly becomes chump change. Like Elizabeth Taylor once said, “big girls need big diamonds.” Ironically enough, that $8.8 million engagement ring belonged to Taylor herself.
