Travis graduated from Martin Luther King Magnet at Pearl High School in 1997. He went to college at the George Washington University from where he graduated in 2001, he majored in history. He went on to study law and attended the Vanderbilt University Law School from where he and graduated in 2004.
Clay Travis started his career in a random way. He was a lawyer in the U.S. Virgin Islands when he started blogging about not being able to get a sports channel in Direct TV. Knowing an important cause when he sees one, Travis went on a hunger strike, and only ate pudding for 50 days. His hunger strike efforts failed, however his blogs triggered an interest in the American media in late 2004.
In 2005, Travis started writing for sports news outlets, including CBS. After leaving CBS, he joined Deadspin as writer and editor. He gave up practicing law and eventually, Travis started his own sports website and got a hosting job on NBC Sports. From there, he went to Fox Sports, where he was able to sign a contract that included his website, as well as a TV show and more. Travis is currently with Fox, and his website is now under the Fox brand.
In his varied career, Clay Travis has written two bestselling books; ‘Dixieland Delight’ in 2007 and his second book ‘Man: The Book’ in 2008. His third book ‘On Rocky Top’ was published in 2010.
