Aside from being one of the best MMA fighters of all time, he was an accomplished Olympic wrestler during his early years. Due to him being a wrestler, he got to know WWE’s Brock Lesnar back in 1997 before both men became famous in the sports/entertainment industries. While he was in high school, Cormier won 3 Louisiana state championships in wrestling. His final wrestling record was 101-9 at high school which is really impressive. Even though he continued wresting in University, he sadly wasn’t able to be successful at the Olympics. He competed in Freestyle Wrestling at the 2004 Olympics, but he only came fourth in the competition meaning he failed to get any medals whatsoever. While he attended the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China, he was only there as a Team Captain as excessive weight cutting prevented him from actually competing at the event. Even though he never got the chance to win an Olympic medal, he still managed to win other Championships during his career.
After not being able to compete at the 2008 Olympics, Daniel Cormier made the transition to MMA fighting. He joined the American Kickboxing Academy and trained with fellow MMA stars Cain Velasquez, Jon Fitch, and Josh Koscheck. It was during this time where he improved on his striking while at the same time honed his craft to be a submission wrestler. He quickly became a household name in MMA by being undefeated in the Strikeforce promotion. It was during this time he captured the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix Championship and he started to become more famous.
Daniel Cormier pretty much stayed with the Strikeforce promotion until the company was acquired by the UFC a few years later. He made his debut in the UFC in against Frank Mir in April 2013 where he increased his record to 12-0. Cormier continued having an undefeated MMA career up until 2015 when he had to face arguably the best MMA fighter of all time in Jon Jones.
It was against Jon Jones at UFC 182 did he suffer the only official loss of his entire MMA career. Jon Jones won their contest by unanimous decision and the latter became the new UFC Light Heavyweight Champion. Despite losing to Jon Jones, Cormier managed to get a bonus by being awarded with “Fight of the Night”. Jon Jones did not hold onto the Light Heavyweight Title for that long as he got stripped of the title due to a hit and run incident. The title became vacant so Cormier eventually managed to become champion. He had a rematch with Jon Jones a few years later, but this ended in a no contest thanks to Jones being caught using PEDs.
In June 2018, Cormier upgraded to become the UFC Heavyweight Champion at UFC 226 against Stipe Miocic. Cormier says he only wants to fight Box Office stars before he retires from MMA at the age of 40 next year. It’s expected his final fight will be against Brock Lesnar defending his UFC Heavyweight title next year. He will probably get a bigger payday in 2019, but he’s still rich in 2018.
In all, we estimate Daniel Cormier net worth in 2018 at $4 million .
