David Michael Bautista Jr. is an American actor born of David Michael Bautista, a hairdresser in DC, and Donna Raye. He was born on 18th January 1969, in Washington, D.C. and has Greek ancestry. His parents separated and had a divorce eventually, and Bautista has been quoted as calling himself “the proud son of a lesbian”.
By the age of 17, Dave Bautista fell out with his parents and left home. He became a regular bouncer for clubs although he ended up on probation after a fight with patrons. He also took jobs as a lifeguard before he decided to pursue a career in bodybuilding.
Dave Bautista first tried out at the World Championship Wrestling, WCW Power Plant. He was however dejected when Sgt. Buddy told him that he could never make it in wrestling. He never gave up and joined the World Wrestling Federation (WWF). The WWF sent him to Wild Samoan Training Center wrestling school where he started competing in the local wrestling promotion.
Dave Bautista was sent to Ohio Valley Wrestling upon signing with the WWF. He made his debut here in 2000 as Leviathan. He became a member of Disciples of Synn where he went unbeaten until that Christmas. He was to win the OVW Heavyweight Championship later before he lost it to The Prototype. On May 9, 2002, Dave Bautista started his televised WWE career. He first appeared on an episode in SmackDown! In April 2005, Batista scooped the World Heavyweight Championship. This was during the WrestleMania 21 fight between him and Triple H. He also won a rematch against Triple H at Backlash in the same category. Batista retained his title against Edge. He was betrayed by Ric Flair who went on to help Triple H viciously attack him. They both met in a Hell in a Cell match where Batista won, retaining his title again.
Dave Bautista teamed up with Rey Mysterio in a SmackDown! episode where they defeated WWE Tag Team Champions. They dedicate their win to the late Eddie Guerrero. After The Undertaker returned at Unforgiven, the two renewed their feud. The two met at Cyber Sunday, and Batista pinned The Undertake. He also defeated Chris Jericho at Cyber Sunday earning himself a fourth World Heavyweight Championship. The win was however short-lived as Jericho defeated him eight days later in a Raw episode.
Dave Bautista defeated Jeri-Show (a team of Chris Jericho and The Big Show) after his return to SmackDown! after several fights, Batista fell out with managers at WWE and left. He later sighted his reason for not liking the direction the company was headed. He, however, returned in 2013 and did several fights.
Dave Bautista started his acting career in 2006. He acted in the film Wrong Side of Town, The Man with the Iron Fists and the Guardians of the Galaxy film. He also played in the James Bond film, Spectre, as Mr. Hinx. Batista also starred as Ting Po in the film Kickboxer, later joining Blade Runner 2049’s cast. He also reprised his role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in 2017.
