He started actually making recordings in 2010, when he created a mix tape called Change of Plans. He released several mix tapes over the next few years, apparently selling drugs in order to support himself.
At some point in 2014, Nas became aware of Dave East’s music, and he wanted to meet East. East ended up signing with Nas’ record label. He produced multiple albums under Nas’ label, including one that featured such well-known names as Pusha T and Jadakiss.
But it wasn’t until last year that Dave East started gaining mainstream popularity. In 2018, he released a song that made it onto Billboard charts, and he was selected by XXL magazine to be featured.
At the end of the year, he signed with Def Jam Records.
This year, he continued to release music, as well as appear in TV and music videos. His latest release, Paranoia: A True Story is out now. East previously released one single from the album called Perfect.
