David Meyler started playing football with the youth team of Cork City (Irish Association football club). After improving the game, he signed a contract with the same club in 2008. Meyler’s debut game in his professional career was against Limerick F.C. He played only three games for this club and joined Sunderland, which is an English professional football club.
Meyler stayed with Sunderland from 2008 to 2013. His first appearance for this club came after a long break of one and a half years. In the match against Manchester United, Meyler suffered cruciate ligament damage in his knee, which kept him out of the game for several weeks. Overall, Meyler made 25 appearances for Sunderland but was unable to score any goal.
