John Robert “J. R.” Celski was born on July 19, 1990 in Monterey, California. He was raised in Federal Way, Washington by his parents, Robert and Sue. He has two older siblings, Chris and David. At three years old, he was already skating. He started as an in- line skater before pursuing speed skating. Celski was 14 when he moved to California to train.
