She was born as Katherine Noel Brosnahan in Kansas City, Missouri, U.S. and is well known to be an American fashion designer and businesswoman before she died. She actually had a degree in journalism back in 1985, but didn’t become rich until she entered the fashion industry with her husband Andy Spade in 1993. The married pair started a New York based design company called “Kate Spade Handbags”. As the name of the company suggests, they mostly sold designer handbags, but the company expanded its inventory by selling lots of other fashion items in order to get bigger.
Spade expanded her empire in 1996 by opening its first boutique store in the SoHo district in New York and this did big business for the company. Later in 2004, she launched the Kate Spade at home which sold products for the home like bedding, wallpaper items and things of that nature. In the same year, she opened a store in Tokyo, Japan for the very first time expanding her brand once again, but this time on a worldwide scale.
Kate Spade actually took time off from her business ventures in 2006 in order to spend more time with her daughter. She sold her stake in the company, but she would resurface a decade later in 2016 launching a new brand called ‘Frances Valentine’. Much like her old empire, ‘Frances Valentine’ sold luxury items such as footwear and handbags.

The official Twitter page posted the following message about her passing: “Kate Spade, the visionary founder of our brand, has passed. Our thoughts are with her family at this heartbreaking time. We honor all beauty she brought into this world.” No doubt Kate Spade will be missed ny many, but her legacy will live on forever.
