Lauren Eve Mayberry was born on October 7th, 1987 in Glasgow, Scotland. She always was a musician because she learnt how to play the piano when she was only a child and then later on learnt how to play the drums as a teenager. Even though she was musically talented as a young person, being a famous musician was not her first career choice growing up. She actually studied first attaining a law degree at the University of Strathclyde. She then received a Masters degree at the same university majoring in Journalism. She completed her masters over in 2010 just prior to her joining the band of Chrvches in 2011.
While studying at university, she was also a drummer for various bands in Scotland and also did the vocals and keyboards for them too. It wasn’t until she met with Martin Doherty and Iain Cook did the trio start recording music with one another and they started to form their own band. Doherty and Cook already knew each other as they attended university with one another several years ago so the addition of Mayberry was their missing piece. They named their band Chvrches in order to make it easier for people to find their band on Google rather than just calling themselves Churches.
The band ended up releasing their first album in 2013 called ‘The Bones of What You Believe‘ which featured arguably the band’s most famous song called ‘The Mother We Share’. The band are fans of video games because many of their songs end up being on video game soundtracks. Some of the games you can hear their songs in include the likes of Forza Horizon 2, Gran Turismo 6 and more. They even created a song specifically for the game Mirror’s Edge Catalyst and they performed at the VGAs a few years ago as well.
Lauren Mayberry and her band got more notoriety thanks to the song ‘Dead Air’ featuring in the The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 soundtrack. After that, the band released its second ever album in 2015 called Every Open Eye. The special edition of the album also included a collaboration with Hayley Williams who is the lead singer of Paramore. Due to the success of the second album, the band once again featured in more TV shows and video games.
