Since starting his YouTube channel in 2007, Tyler Oakley has been the subject of many nominations, awards, and honors. He has many millions of followers across not only his YouTube account but his other social media platforms as well, and he has been described as a voice of the generation.
In July 2014, Advocate named Oakley one of its “40 under 40” people who are up-and-coming and influence the world. They labeled him an “emerging voice” who’s success using social media will mean great things for the LGBT community, and pointed out that the YouTube sensation has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Trevor Project, an intervention and suicide prevention lifeline for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth.
Besides creating success videos for his fans, he also has his own apparel line and is currently during a live-show tour, all of which are predicted to sell out. He has had such a loud voice when discussing social issues that he even did a feature with first lady Michelle Obama, which has 1,651,494 at the present moment.
