Marc Jacobs is officially off the market, and by that, we mean the designer himself, not the brand. But you knew that, right? The iconic fashion designer married his longtime love, Charly “Char” Defrancesco, in a private ceremony in New York City. After the couple said their “I do’s,” they danced the night away at the charming midtown restaurant, Grill Room.
The dapper couple wore matching diamond and onyx penguin pins on their special day, which were a generous gift from Miu Miu and Prada design director Fabio Zambernardi. Yes, the pins sound extravagant, but hey, what would you expect from a design director of TWO major fashion houses, but there is a special meaning to them as well. “Penguins have only one partner and mate for life — a great example of faithfulness and fidelity. So grateful to you and love you so much dear Fabio,” Jacobs explained the meaning behind the gifts on Instagram.
After the intimate ceremony, the loved up pair shared a sweet kiss while showing off their flair for high fashion. Jacob’s now-husband wore a stunning green velvet suit jacket with a matching bow tie while on the other hand, the designer himself opted for a darker suit.
Who would you expect to attend such a high-profile wedding in the fashion industry? Models? Actresses? All the big names from around the world? Well, you’re right! Some of the guests who attended the wedding were from the newlywed’s inner circle. It’s Marc Jacobs, and his inner posse includes Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Bella Hadid, and Gigi Hadid, Kaia Gerber (uuuh how is she a close friend? She’s half his age!), and Emily Ratajkowski! Other noteworthy attendees were Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and fashion editor Katie Grand.
Also present were Lil Kim, Luka Sabbat, Frank Ocean, Chloë Sevigny, and singer Rita Ora.
The journey to wedded bliss started a year ago when Jacobs surprised his model-turned-candlemaker boyfriend by popping the question on Defrancesco’s birthday. You’d never believe where the two were dining on that fateful night! No, it wasn’t the Maldives, even though that would have been utterly romantic. It was a random Chipotle restaurant. Shocking, we know! Can you image Marc Jacobs waiting in line at Chipotle?
Don’t worry though, to add some flair to a Chipotle proposal, right before popping the question; he organized a flash mob performance set to Prince’s 1986 hit “Kiss.” At the end of the flash mob, he then got down on one knee.
“GET READY FOR THE ALL TIME GAG!!!!!” an overwhelmed Defrancesco posted on Instagram after the heart-melting moment. “Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen.”
In October last year, Defrancesco opened up to People Magazine about why the restaurant is close to his heart.
“I took him to Chipotle for the very first time, and every year for my birthday, we go to Chipotle,” he explained. “Moving to New York, being from L.A., I’ve always loved Mexican food, it’s my favorite and it’s kinda like a little piece of home even though it’s not authentic Mexican food,” he shared, adding, “It’s consistent and tastes like Chipotle, no matter what Chipotle you go to.”
