Don Thompson was named CEO of McDonald’s in 2012 to become the man in charge of the largest restaurant chain in the entire world with 35,000 restaurants to be responsible for. Thompson has been in the position for two years as the corporation’s first African-American CEO, claiming he has risen here from an impoverished childhood where eating McDonald’s products was a rare luxury. His total yearly compensation for his position is $9,496,644.
So how does the CEO of such a well-known and consumed business live, you might ask? In 2012, the year he accepted the position, Don Thompson spent $3.3 million purchasing two Chicago Trump Tower condos that have a total of 4,414 square feet.
Though his pay rate is hefty and he can live quite comfortably, the Squander wonders how well he is able to sleep at night. McDonald’s, of course, is not only constantly being criticized for both the quality of its products and the low-pay for its employees, but also is now experiencing a record-low for same-store sales in the U.S. Thompson has a lot that is expected of him, and hopefully his can-do attitude will help him manage the obstacles before him. We’ll just take some comfort in knowing he certainly gets paid enough for his troubles.
