In high school, Rolando McClain played for Decatur Red Raiders high school football team as a tight end and linebacker. His remarkable performance in the senior year led him to Parade All-American honors. In 2007, Rolando was ranked as the No. 2 inside linebacker of the nation.
McClain played college football on the Alabama Crimson Tide football team from 2007 to 2009. In the freshman year, Rolando recorded 75 tackles, one sack, and two interceptions.
