T-Pain did a cover version of Akon’s single ‘Locked Up’ in 2014 in which he was discovered by Akon and signed him up to Konvict Muzik. T-Pain started singing instead of rapping after which he recorded ‘Rappa Ternt Sanga’ his debut album released in 2005. It became a hit and sold 500,000 units.
T-Pain then preceded with singles “I’m Sprung” and “I’m N Luv (Wit a Stripper)” which hit the charts in 2005. T-Pain then recorded his second album in 2007 called Epiphany and it hit number one on the Billboard 200 which sold 819,000 records. His lead single “Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin’)” became T-Pain’s first single to top charts both in the Hot 100 and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
T-Pain’s other top-charting albums were Thr33 Ringz, Revolver, and OBLiViON. T-Pain continued to appear on numerous rap singles, on American late-night television programs. He also hosted the paid tribute to Michael Jackson in West Covina and the 2009 BET Awards.
Aside from T-Pain being a record producer-rapper, he also ventured with iPhone app creator Smule in 2009 to create an app entitled “I Am T-Pain” allowing people to use his style of Auto-Tune in karaoke. In the same year, T-Pain made his debut as an actor when he appeared in Aqua Teen Hunger Force as Frylockon. ‘Freaknik: The Musical’ was developed and submitted to Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim by T-Pain as an animated television special.
T-Pain also made his cinema acting debut as a liquor store clerk in the comedy film Lottery Ticket. In 2018, T-Pain also appeared as American singer Stevie Wonder in an episode of YouTube series titled Epic Rap Battles of History.
