Green was adopted, and he was urged to find his birth mother. He started the search for his birth mother when his relationship with a girlfriend ended in 1985.
He attended high school at Liverpool High School from where he graduated in 1982. Green graduated from college in 1986 from Syracuse University. Green married to Illyssa (his mutual friend from Syracuse University) in 1989, and they both have five children. He and his family currently live in Upstate, New York.
