You Won’t Believe What’s in the $160,000 Oscar Swag Bag
While this makes us a little mad because it means everyone’s a winner (and we didn’t want anyone who took part in Boyhood to be one), the swag bags for this year’s nominees for best director, actors, and actresses for this years Academy Awards is nothing short of amazing.
The swag bags are personally delivered to the recipients the day after the show to help take the edge off of losing for the runner-ups (the winners don’t receive them) and to also get the name out for the budding products included in the package.
Some of the cooler things included are vacations (that’s right, plural) and the fashion-forward Whiz-bang bicycles. Included in the bag is an Italian hotel package that covers three nights of pampering in Tuscany and a $15,000 Rocky Mountains luxury train ride.
Super cool, but there are definitely a couple items on the stranger side of the spectrum. We’re not sure how many celebrities will be impressed with the $50 worth of Hydroxycut weight-loss supplements, and the inclusion of $56 six-pack condoms and a $20,000 package to privately meet with a glorified psychic is eye-brow raising.
Either way, the Academy Awards does not officially sponsor the swag bags. Rather, marketing company Distinctive Assets is responsible for designing and distributing the opulent goody bags led by the self-proclaimed gift-guru Lash Fary.
